Alexandra Fieldhouse is a ceramic artist based in the Maritimes, where the dynamic landscapes and vibrant creative community inspire her work. Her journey with clay began during high school in Ontario, where she discovered the magic of transforming raw materials into functional art. Starting with just a wooden rolling pin and clay,
Alex crafted her first mugs and fell in love with the tactile, grounding nature of the medium.

This passion led her to the East Coast to pursue a formal ceramic education at the New Brunswick College of Craft & Design. During three transformative years at the college, Alex mastered wheel-throwing, explored alternative firing techniques, and created her own signature glaze recipes. Her experience at NBCCD deepened her connection to clay and solidified her vision as an artist. She continues to pursue endless forms, colours, and textures from her home studio in Atlantic Canada, where the region’s beauty deeply influences her work.

Alex’s focus is to create functional art infused with the serenity and energy of nature. Her process is rooted in intuitive spontaneity—carving into clay without rigid plans, allowing each piece to evolve organically. This approach reflects her belief in the beauty of imperfection and the excitement of discovery. Each creation bears unrepeatable marks, embodying collaboration with the natural world’s unpredictability. Her work is a harmonious blend of the timeless elegance of nature and the intimacy of handmade craftsmanship, offering a tangible connection to the East Coast landscape that inspires her.

Through her pots, Alex captures both the external beauty of the natural world and the evolving inner landscape of her artistic soul. Each piece is a testament to the unpredictable journey of discovery and self-expression, offering a meaningful connection to the beauty of impermanence.
